Samsung Kies Tab 3
Samsung Kies is current only available for devices running Android 4.2 or lower. For Android 4.3 or higher, use. Kies is a desktop software available from the Samsung which allows you to manage, transfer, and enjoy digital content, including photos, videos, music, contacts, and calendar events between a Samsung device and a computer. The Samsung way to connect your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone to a computer is to obtain and use the Samsung Kies program. A copy can be downloaded to your computer (PC or Mac) from the Samsung website. Ensure that you download the proper version of Kies for the Galaxy Note 3.
Samsung might not release the Android 6.0 M update for its Galaxy Tab 3 users, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the latest features, apps, capabilities and Android UI on your own tablet. You can anytime choose to flash a Marshmallow based custom ROM and one of the best choice you can make is represented by the new CyanogenMod built: CM 13. So, if you are planning in updating your Tab 3 with an Android 6.0 powered custom ROM, maybe you will also want to check the guidelines from below.
Unfortunately the CyanogenMod team hasn’t yet provided the Nightly built of CM13 for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. Therefore, you will have to use a ported version of this Android 6.0 M update, which is developed and offered by those of xda-developers (we must thank them for this step by step guide). Don’t worry, the ROM is stable enough for a daily use and you won’t experience major bugs, lags or other software related Android issues – however, since it is an unofficial version of the stock CM 13 ROM, the software might still contain minor issues, but nothing significant though.
Installing CM 13 on your Galaxy Tab 3 is easy, though you still have to prepare your tablet first – being a custom ROM, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software can be flashed only in certain conditions. Thus, before doing anything else complete the following operations:
- Root your Android device as this is the only way in which you can unlock the internal system of your tablet – CM 13 and any other custom ROM can be installed only if root access has been already ensured.
- Install a custom recovery image on your Tab 3 – preferable CWM or TWRP recovery. The recovery environment will be used on the flashing process as the Android update is coming in form of a .zip file.
- Through the same recovery environment you will also have to hard reset your tablet and to clear its app data cache – without performing a clean install, you won’t be able to properly use the CM 13 firmware.
- So, as you can already tell, you should now backup your Galaxy Tab 3 in order to save everything that’s important for you: contacts, call logs, texts, EFS folder, market apps, internet settings, images, videos, audio files, calendar info, saved passwords, IMEI / NVRAM data and so on.
- For the backup you can sync your data with your account, you can use cloud storage platforms or you can download free distributed backup and restore apps from Google Play.
- Finally, through the same custom recovery software you can also make a Nandroid backup. This dedicated backup operation implies in saving the current ROM of your Android device. Thus, after completing this guide you will be able to go back to stock if that is what you will prefer.
Those are the essential pre requisites that must be completed before resuming the guidelines from down below. Do note that some operations from above, including the present update one, aren’t official and shouldn’t be related with Samsung or with Google in any matter. So, be prepared as you are going to lose your Galaxy Tab 3 warranty if you will choose to install the Android 6.0 Marshmallow based CM 13 custom ROM. That’s why, maybe a good idea will be to check how to manually fix a bricked Android device as who knows when you will need such a dedicated troubleshoot procedure.
Now, along with the pre requisites from above you also have to make sure that a computer can be used; of course, your Tab 3 and its USB cable must be near you also. As you will notice, some files will have to be downloaded on your computer, so you might want to temporarily deactivate the security protection from your device (do that if your antivirus interferes with the download process). Then, on your tablet access the “menu – settings – about device” path from where tap a few times on Built Number for gaining Developer Options. Finally, access Developer Options (from “menu – settings”) and check the USB Debugging field.
Don’t forget to charge your device before completing this update operation. Usually, if the battery power is lower than 50%, your tablet can get turned off, and possible bricked, while you try to flash the CM 13 custom ROM firmware and that’s not something you would like to happen, I am sure about that.
